ISKO France is a scholarly society active in the field of knowledge organization, a discipline at the intersection of information science, documentation, and the digital humanities. As such, its mission is to promote research, foster scholarly exchange, and build a community of specialists focused on issues related to the structuring, representation, and circulation of knowledge.
ISKO France does not operate in isolation but is part of a structured international network, the International Society for Knowledge Organization, founded in 1989. This organization brings together various national chapters (Germany, Spain, Italy, Canada, etc.) as well as thematic groups, creating a space for scientific collaboration on a global scale. Within this framework, ISKO France contributes to the dissemination of research, the organization of conferences, and the exchange of concepts and methods specific to knowledge organization.
Furthermore, its work is based on numerous partnerships, both institutional and academic. It collaborates with universities, research laboratories, cultural heritage institutions (libraries, archives, museums), and other professional associations. These interactions allow for the integration of theoretical and applied approaches, particularly in fields such as information systems, ontologies, indexing, and data management.
Thus, ISKO France can be viewed as a hub within a broader scientific network, linking local and international dynamics. This position gives it a pivotal role in the development and dissemination of knowledge related to knowledge organization, while promoting interdisciplinarity and cooperation among stakeholders in the field.
